Emergeant à la fin des années 90 d'une formation de noisy pop bricolée, Margrave Ruediger semble se définir dès ses premiers morceaux par un éclectisme revendiqué et l'utilisation quasi unique d'un sampler aux possibilitées limitées, créant ainsi une musique à la frontière des genres (electronica, ambient post-indus, post-rock, pop) et au son délibéremment lo-fi.Si l'introduction de l'ordinateur dans la composition et la collaboration avec d'autres artistes (avec notamment l'excellent album de Martin's Trombone on the Moon et le projet Nacre – collaboration avec Trombone et Le ciel se couvrit de bombes -) ont contribué à faire évoluer le son de Margrave Ruediger, le maître mot de celui ci reste avant tout le plaisir de sans cesse se reinventer.
